Conversations AWAY from Technology

OK, So we're sitting at Starbucks, having a great conversation, away from video games, away from the computer, and the tv.... just my boy and me talking about school projects and classes, people, friends, and FEELINGS, when the PHONE rings (can't leave ALL the technology at home!)

My son's buddy calls him to say, "Hey I'm leaving to Texas for a few weeks, came by to say bye, but you're not home, where are you?"

My son says "I'm at Starbucks with my mom, I can't believe you're just leaving like that..... well, I'll see you when you get back!"

There was more conversation, but he didn't tell his friend to come to Starbucks or say to me "Let's go home."... Nothing. Just told his friend, "See you when you get back."

I STILL RATE!!!!!!

I think we'll do this once a week... it's SO WORTH it!!

Oh, BTW, that earthquake was only a 4.5 magnitude, not the 5.0 I stated in my last entry.

  1. Betty said she felt the earthquake too. I fell asleep before the 11pm news came on so missed hearing about it last night & then this morning I was still sleeping when the morning news came on. Oh I'll have to check the paper...there might be news of it there. I was looking forward to my son taking me out for my b'day but then his new GF sent me an email and told me I should be thinking of where I'd like to go. So I guess there will be 3 of us. 4. Joann, I, like you, raised my 2 children as a single parent. My son and I (in spite of some rebellion on his part between 18 & 23 yrs of age)have a beautiful relationship - too hard to explain. He is 28 and has grown up rapidly in the last 5 yrs. Now it's like he can't do enough for me.

He has taken me to every doctor's appt since I broke my ankle last month and has come to have lunch with me every day while I have been home on sick leave!

Just when we think they aren't hearing us when we preach/nag/beg, then we find later that they WERE listening, that all is not lost!

    Love your playlist!!

  6. You definitely do rate. There may be times, though most teens do not readily admit this, that being with their mom is BETTER then connecting right then with a friend. You are a life long friend to him, and so much more.

  7. That is so sweet what your son did. I love one on one time with my daughter. It is not to often since she is 14 and has to be with her friends. Have a wonderful weekend.

  13. Many people have been robbed of people by technology; sometimes others feel like that about those very people. Have a good week, Joann.
